Firmware update and new enhancements provide optimized operational efficiency and ensure lasting protection.

WEST KINGSTON, RI – February 6, 2013 – Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced the Symmetra PX 250/500kW three-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for data center applications has earned the ENERGY STAR qualification. In addition, thanks to the latest firmware update, ECO mode delivering 99 percent efficiency levels, synchronization to an external AC source, a Mega Tie option, and a remote display application are now supported. The firmware update is available on all Symmetra PX 250/500kW units without requiring data center operators to invest in new hardware.

The Symmetra PX 250/500kW UPS is designed to make installation, future expansion and serviceability faster and easier, offering a modular, hot-scalable system consisting of dedicated and redundant modules. Each system is scalable in 25kW increments up to 500kW, with the ability to run up to four systems in parallel to provide 2MW of redundant power protection. Building on these features, the firmware update enhances the Symmetra PX 250/500kW’s capability to meet the constantly evolving needs of the data center.

Capable of greater than 96 percent efficiency down to 50 percent load levels and greater than 95 percent efficiency at 25 percent load levels while in on-line double conversion mode, the Symmetra PX 250/500kW achieved operational efficiency in the top 25 percent of the market and passed the ENERGY STAR program’s rigorous, third-party testing requirements. ECO mode performance was not required to achieve the ENERGY STAR qualification. However, the firmware update now supports ECO mode, allowing the solution to bypass unused electrical components in good power conditions to achieve even higher operating efficiency without sacrificing protection.

With this announcement, Schneider Electric has made it easier to identify and purchase an energy-efficient three-phase UPS for data center applications. In addition to all the current features and capabilities of the Symmetra PX 250/500kW, the release of the firmware update gives users more flexibility to meet the ever changing needs of today’s data center and mission critical applications:

• Synchronization to an external AC source: UPS can be synchronized with any independent source for use with downstream static transfer switches.
• Mega Tie option: Enables data center managers to maintain full protection during maintenance procedures by transferring the load from one independent Symmetra PX 250/500kW system to another.
• Remote display application: The display interface can be downloaded to a laptop or personal computer, enabling monitoring of the UPS and configuration of sub-set UPS parameters.

The Symmetra PX 250/500kW can be managed through Schneider Electric’s Data Center Infrastructure™ Management Software (DCIM), StruxureWare™ for Data Centers, giving data center managers the full visibility needed to proactively protect system uptime and reduce operational costs.

The Symmetra PX 250/500kW joins other select Schneider Electric Back-UPS™ and Smart-UPS™ models which achieved ENERGY STAR qualification in late 2012.
